Where it began
History
From German hunting hounds bred to go to ground after badger, to a beloved companion the world over.
The spirited companion
Bold, affectionate and endlessly entertaining, with the flowing coat that gives the long-haired variety its elegance. This is the Dachshund we know and breed at Bilkau.
Small dog, big personality
There is a lot to loving a Dachshund well: keeping that long back safe, grooming a flowing coat from head to tail, feeding just the right amount, and finding a vet you and your hound both trust. These little dogs become family within days, and deserve to be cared for like family from the very first one.
The popular image is a sausage on legs, but a well-bred Dachshund is meant to be robustly muscular, agile and tireless – built for the burrow and the garden alike. We go into the detail of feeding, training, exercise and grooming on our care page. Here is the breed in brief.
