Rescue & Rehoming
Rescue & rehoming
Illness, death, divorce, emigration and financial difficulty are just a few of the reasons owners are sometimes forced to find new homes for their dogs. No Bilkau hound is ever left without one.
Our promise
A lifetime take-back guarantee.
All Bilkau Irish Wolfhounds are sold with breeding contracts in which the new owners agree to contact our kennel if, for any reason, they are ever unable to keep their hound.
We in turn guarantee either to help rehome the dog – we normally keep a list of prospective Irish Wolfhound owners – or, in extreme cases, to house the hound ourselves until a new home can be found. A Bilkau hound always has somewhere to come back to.
Rehoming is responsibility in action.
No shame · no abandonment
Lives change. Asking for help early is the responsible choice, and it gives everyone the best chance to make a calm, safe plan for the hound.
Please do not advertise a Bilkau Wolfhound privately or hand it to an unknown home before speaking to Kim. The take-back agreement exists so that history, temperament, health and prospective homes can be considered together.
If the hound did not come from Bilkau, you are still welcome to contact us. We may not always be able to take a dog in, but we can help think through safe next steps and relevant breed contacts.

The take-back promise is part of every placement. If you are considering an Irish Wolfhound, understand the commitment and contact Kim with any questions.
